E-commerce: is it complicated?
A video Q&A from my COVID series. Still relevant.
Yes! It is really complicated. In addition to online marketing, you also need to build the online shop, finance, logistics, returns, links to retailers and customer service.
But the best way to solve something complex is to simply start. Many make the mistake of beginning with a wide range of products straight away. By the time the automated ERP interface is in place and all the images are ready, you will already have spent half a million, without having generated any revenue.
So the rule is: start small, test, learn and scale accordingly. Start with a small number of products, for example bestsellers or clearance stock. You can sell older products from a depot to make room for new ones.
Personal recommendation:
After working with Shopify myself on a larger project, I can recommend this platform without reservation. In just a few days, you can build an online shop here with all the integrations you need. Different tools support you with marketing or CRM systems. You can choose from different templates that already include all the functions, so you do not need to set up much manually. With a few clicks, your products are also in the Google Product Feed, and you get an overview of conversions to optimise your advertising.
