I am often asked what a good conversion rate is. That naturally varies a lot by industry, product price and target audience. Over the years, I have developed a simple rule:
Below 0.5%: very poor, or do you have a product that costs many thousands of francs?
Below 0.5%: very poor, or do you have a product that costs many thousands of francs
Below 2%: OK, but there is still more room to improve!
2-4%: Excellent!!
4-6%: Wow!
10-15%: Are you selling on Amazon?
Conversion rate for Shopify stores?
Little Data analysed 1’990 Shopify stores. On average, they had a conversion rate of 1.6%, and the best 20% of stores had a conversion rate of 3.6% or more. The top 10% had 5.1% and above.
What actually influences the conversion rate?
Besides the product, the price, and the presentation of the product (and its information), the downstream process is decisive too. That includes availability, payment options and delivery costs. In principle, design also influences the conversion rate, as does the type of campaigns being run (keyword: relevant traffic). Brand impact, meaning trust and awareness, is also important, especially for expensive products.
From a technical point of view, loading speed is especially central to conversion. Quanta analysed 120 stores and produced interesting results. From around 8 seconds' loading time, the conversion rate is below 2%
